Late in Coming

Wow.

That’s all I can say.

Wow.

It’s been over a month since the last post. Sorry about that. I’ve been preoccupied this last month. Doing school, music/tatting lessons, orchestra/choir, and all of the performances for orchestra and choir.

The 5th of December was the day that pretty much started all of the performances. It was our big Christmas concert for all of the orchestras, choirs, bands, and small ensembles. That in itself was almost an all day deal. At least and all afternoon deal.

Last Thursday, Concert choir, Bel Canto chamber choir, and the Beethoven and Brhams orchestras had a practice for a performance that we had on Friday. I am glad to be over with them for the time being. But I get to do the Christmas performances only once more before I graduate next year.

We have the next two weeks off of school. Which is a good thing and a bad thin all at the same time. For I still have to do some things to get caught back up to where I need to be and other things that I just need to do. Such as read the Pilgrims Progress. I get to read that over Christmas break. I am almost all the way caught back up to where I need to be. Just a lesson here and there and I’ll be good.

Hope you all have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

One little mistake

I forgot to say in the last post, that Maddie and I(with a few extra "sisters") went to a bonfire for the choir that we are in. Everyone in the choir, ever since it has started, has stated that we need to get together and have a party of some kind. A little over two years after the choir's first meeting, we finaly had a party on the 10th of October. Two years. 2.

I had a lot of fun. We had the typical bonfire food there, i.e. hotdogs, chips, soda, smores, and a lot of other desserts.

We sang around the fire accompanied by a guitar.

We also played a name game. In this game, the first person had to say their name and the state that they were born in. The the person next in line would have to say all of the pepole BEFORE him/her and add themseves to the line of names. It went that way, all the way around the fire. When it got back to the firts person, which was our choir director, she had to do everyone in reverse order. So instead of starting with herself, again and going in the order that everyone esle did, she had to start with the last person who did it and go around the fire backwards. Until she got back to herself. It was really fun.

Numerous Activites.

Since the last time that I posted, several things have happened.

1. My dad had his B-day.(I won't tell how old he is.)
2. My youngest brother had his 7th B-day.
3. The girl that I teach tatting to, finished her Christmas medallion and we have moved on to a doily.
4. I went and helped at a friends horse sale.
5. We are soon to get our new Christmas music for orchestra and choir.
6. The harp lesson that I teach is going very well.
7. Music lessons are going along very well.

I am very excited for everything that is going on.

I am still enjoying the Brahms theory class that I am taking. I have been learning things that I didn’t know a few months ago.

My driving practice is going well, I guess. My parents might disagree for some of the times that they rode with me. There were some almost scary times. I don’t know how much I have at the moment, but I have at least much more than 3 hours done. Probably more like 5 or 6 hours, but I’m not sure how much I have exactly.

Catching Up.

Sorry for the long wait for the next post!

School has been going very well. I am enjoying all of my subjects so far. At the moment, I am doing Algebra 2, Consumer Math, World History, Vocabulary, English, an Elizabeth George Bible study, a fast moving Biology (I am doing several lessons a day at my request in order to get to Chemistry faster), and on Mondays and Wednesdays I am doing Economics. I am yet to have a writing class, but my mom is still undecided on how to do everything. I think I got everything. Well, there is Piano, Violin, Harp, and Choir practice that I have to do everyday as well. Music is a given.

Yesterday was orchestra/choir/theory! I LOVE my choirs, orchestras, and theory classes that I am in! I also LOVE my 11 eight year olds and 2 nine year olds in the beginner violin theory class that I teach. This year I am teaching a private lesson for the first time. It’s a harp lesson.

In the Brahms theory class (the one that I am taking) I LOVE IT TREMENDASLY! Mr. H. is AWSOME! I am learning so much. He makes everything very fun easy to understand. One of the things that we are learning is how to conduct. Very exciting! Yet, I had no idea how big the world of chords really was until I walked into this class three weeks ago.

I’m sorry if I am rambling! I just love music!

News, News, News.

Sorry that I haven’t posted in a while. I’ve been pretty busy.

My great-grandmother, on my moms’ side, died recently. She was 87. So, this past week they had the visitation and funeral. My mom had us take this week off of school for it.

Yesterday was orchestra orientation. It is just a time for the new people to come and get a taste of what the orchestra sounds/is like. Also to help them decide what type of instrument they would like to play. This is also the time for them to get their books for their classes. This year we added the choir to the orientation. In the past years it has just been the 2nd most advanced orchestra. But this year Bel Canto sang. So that people can hear what we sound like.

Quick Sum-Up

Sorry for waiting so long to post anything.

Orchestra and choir started back up last Friday. Really exciting. I got to see all of my friends, which made me happy.

We are starting school tomorrow. Yippy. I am kind-of excited, kind-of not. For I am ready for something to do, yet not wanting to spend all that time on school. Do you know what I mean? I guess what I'm saying is I am ready for summer to be over, but not wanting it to end.

I can't remember if I have already said this or not, but I have been teaching a girl from our church how to tat and other things. Such as, reading a pattern. Something that she didn't know. Hopefully I am doing a good enough job that she is getting it without thinking after I leave, "Now what did she just teach me how to do?" On the whole, I think I am getting across to her fairly well.

I guess that is it. There is really not much else to post about at this moment.

Yesterday. aka, my Birthday

Yesterday was my birthday!! I really didn’t do anything fun. But I had a good time anyway.

For my birthday dinner, I had salmon and some other white fish, witch I can not remember the name of it. With wild rice and corn for the sides. The fish was cooked three different ways. Broiled, breaded, and fried.

For dessert, I had a home-made Black Forrest Cake. I am tempted to sneak a piece before we go. *smile*

I got a book on how to knit socks. With everything I need to make them. I have already started on them. I also got some new, better boots for when I go riding. I actually got them last week. For I had a horse clinic/trail ride last Saturday. So I needed some boots for that.

Today we are going to my moms parents house for the fourth! I’ll hopefully put pic. up.

A Day of Shopping.

Yesterday my mom, Kara, Maddie, Becca, Megan, and I went shopping. For Kara, Becca, and I had gift cards that we wanted to use.

We first went to Mardels. I had a $5 gift card that I got for helping teach theory at orchestra. I used it to get a book. It is by Gilbert Morris. It is titled ‘The Mermaid in the Basement: A Lady Trent Mystery.’

We then went to CPO. Becca had a $20 gift card from Bible Drill. She got three books, which I have no idea what they are.

Our next stop was to Kohl’s and Michaels. We dropped Kara and Maddie off at Kohl’s to get some clothes while the rest of us went to Michaels. While we were at Michaels, I got some yarn, and some embroidery floss, that I needed. We then went back to Kohl’s to pick Kara and Maddie up. It ended up that Kara had a $25 gift card from Kohl’s.

Our next stop was Lifeway. Kara had a $20 gift card from there. I got a book and a bookmark while Kara was looking around. The book that I got is the first book of a new trilogy. It is titled ‘Breathe: A Novel of Colorado.’ It is by Lisa T. Bergren.

While we were at Lifeway, Judy, a friend of the family, came by after work. We all went out to eat at McAlister's and then we went to Brahms to eat ice cream.

So, it was a productive trip in my eyes. Both of the books are going on my reading list. So, what I told you all was true. That I would put more on there or read more that what is originally on there.

Today we have a wedding to go to. It will be the fourth one that we have attended in the past four months or so.

Book Reviews

Book #3

This book is titled "The Last Chance Detectives: Canyon Quest." It is written by Jim Ware. It is about a 12 year old boy and his life in Ambrosia Arizona. He meets three friends on his search for his dad. Along the way, he encounters many trials. It is a Christian book.

Book #4

This next book is titled "Mystery of the Roman Ransom." It is written by Henry Winterfeld. It is the other book I mentioned in my review of Detectives in Togas, the one that is a part of a series. This time the boys have to figure out which one of them might have a father who will be assassinated. It is filled with mystery and intrigue.

Book #5

The last book for this post it titled “The Witch of Blackbird Pond.” It is written by Elizabeth George Speare. It is about a 16 year old girl who has been raised in Barbados by her grandfather, and now has to go live with her aunt, whom she has never seen, and her family in Connecticut. Not long after living there, she is accused of being a witch. This is also a Christian book.

Book Reviews.

Book Reviews.

Since I have started a reading list, I decided that I would do a review on each book. I will add my opinion of the book. I have also moved the feature “My Summer Reading List” to the bottom of my blog. So it will be more readable. I have put the books that I have read there along with the dates that I read each book, from the day I start each book to the day that I finish.

Book Review #1

This is the book that I decided to start my reading “spree” with.

The title of the book is “Mara, Daughter of the Nile.” It is written by Eloise Jarvis McGraw. It takes place in ancient Egypt.

This is a book that I have to restrain myself to reading once a year. For I know that if I read it more that that, I will surly tire of it. I defiantly recommend it to people who have a lot of time on their hands in which they can read this exciting tale! Not to mention, it is a tale of adventure, romance, and intrigue. A story that, as I said above, will take you on a journey through ancient Egypt.

Book Review #2

This next book is titled “Detectives in Togas.” It is written by Henry Winterfeld. It also happens to be an Odyssey Classic. It is one of a four book series, of which I have and read two.

This is another that I have to read once a year. For I would bore of it, and be able to recite it almost work for work. This book is for people who love mystery, and love to read anything about ancient Rome.

My Summer Reading List

This summer I would like to make a summer reading list for myself. If any of you would like to use it for this summer, I am fine with that. I have a starting list of 24 books. I say ‘starting’ because I am sure that I will read more that what I have. But I would like to read everything on my list before orchestra and school starts back up this fall. Some are in series form, so I will put the number of books by each name, to indicate how many are in each. Some of these books are in my bookshelf down at the bottom of my blog.

Here is the list:
1. The Chronicles of Narnia. (7)
2. The Lord of the Rings. (4)
3. Mara, Daughter of the Nile. (1)
4. The Witch of Blackbird Pond. (1)
5. Mystery of the Roman Ransom. (1)
6. Detectives in Togas. (1)
7. The Wishbone Mysteries. (1 at least)
8. The Accidental Detectives. (1 at least)
9. The Last Chance Detectives. (1)
10. The Boxcar Children. (The first at least)
11. The Adventures of Nathan T. Riggens (6)

As I stated before, If you would like to read these books as well, I would not mind one bit. Wish me luck!! I am going to put each book that I finish on the side of my blog. Each with the date that I start the book, and the date of when I finish.

My Weekend

This is what has happened in my life this weekend.

Tuesday and Thursday were the final concerts for orchestra. I am sad. All of my classes that performed were on Thursday.

After the Thursday performance, we three older kids went putt-putt golfing with some of our friends from our orchestras and choirs that performed that night. I had a fun time though. Got to hang out with friends for pretty much the last time. We got there around 9. We didn’t leave until about 11:30. I know, three hours. It was almost one by the time we had dropped of two of our friends that came with us that we got to go home. It was a little after one when we went to bed.

You can go on you tube and watch some videos of the choirs and orchestras playing.

Friday was, let us say, different. Without going to orchestra on Fridays is going to take some getting used to. That night the whole family went to our church music practice, and then we went to Pizza Hut for dinner. After that, we went home. That night, around 8:30/9, Kara, Maddie, Emi, and I all decided that we would watch a move. It was “Far and Away.” It is a Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman movie made in 1992. I would defiantly NOT recommend it if you freak out about blood. So it was 11:30 by the time the movie was over.

Saturday, I went to a horse clinic over at one of our friends’ house, the S’s. I had a great time!! I learned a lot. I also helped them by going on some tours to see the baby foals. While I was opening gates I was looking for what I would “like” to get if I could get a horse. I got a nice sun-burn from doing that.

Saturday was also Becca’s 11th birthday.

Yesterday went on like a normal Sunday.

Today, really nothing to tell. Oh, we opened our pool yesterday. So it will be a matter of days before I will attempt to get in. Although the kids were talking about getting in today. My parents are actually thinking about letting them. Crazy people.

Well, I think that is it for now.

Weekends at Home Without Parents

This weekend is and has been a little different than usual.

For starters, as the title states, my parents are gone this weekend. My dad had a business trip/convention this weekend. My mom just tagged along just for the fun of it. I guess. They won’t be back till Tuesday. So hopefully they will come back to a house that has the four younger ones in it! *evil laugh and smirk just for you Mom*

So yesterday and today my grandparents came down to help watch the kids while us older kids were in class at orchestra. It was great to not have to worry about where the kids were. Especially Luke. If you know him, you will know what I mean. My grandparents brought my baby cousin with them. It was fun to have her with us!

This past year, as some of you know, in my orchestra theory class we have been composing our own music. I might be able to record my favorites and put them on here. Hopefully I can figure out how to do that……….. *uneasy face*

I think that is it for now.

1st Year Anniversary

I missed the 1 year mark of writing this blog!!!! I can't believe it, it does not seem like it has been that long!! I hope you all have been enjoying reading this blog.

Sorry for the slow down of posts.

How many of you watch American Idol? There is only about three weeks left for this season. I would really like to see Kris or Adam win. I like Danny, but if he wins, he will be under contract so he could not record Christian music.

If you don't know, my sister graduated last Friday night!! Maddie and I got to play and sing w/ our homeschooled groups since it was a homeschooled graduation.

I guess that is all for this post.

7 Reasons Not To Mess With Children

My Grandma sent me this not long ago.

7 Reasons Not To Mess With Children

1. A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small. The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible. The little girl said, 'When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah'.The teacher asked, 'What if Jonah went to hell?'The little girl replied, 'Then you ask him'.

2. A Kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they were drawing. She would occasionally walk around to see each child's work.As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was. The girl replied, 'I'm drawing God.'The teacher paused and said, 'But no one knows what God looks like.'Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, 'They will in a minute.'

3. A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to 'honor' thy Father and thy Mother, she asked, 'Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?' Without missing a beat one little boy (the oldest of a family) answered, 'Thou shall not kill.'

4. One day a little girl was sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother had several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head. She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, 'Why are some of your hairs white, Mum?'Her mother replied, 'Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white..'The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then said, 'Mummy, how come ALL of grandma's hairs are white?'

5. The children had all been photographed, and the teacher was trying to persuade them each to buy a copy of the group picture. 'Just think how nice it will be to look at it when you are all grown up and say, 'There's Jennifer, she's a lawyer,' or 'That's Michael, He's a doctor.' A small voice at the back of the room rang out, 'And there's the teacher, she's dead.'

6. A teacher was giving a lesson on the circulation of the blood. Trying to make the matter clearer, she said, 'Now, class, if I stood on my head, the blood, as you know, would run into it, and I would turn red in the face.''Yes,' the class said.'Then why is it that while I am standing upright in the ordinary position the blood doesn't run into my feet?'A little fellow shouted,'Cause your feet ain't empty.'

7. The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray: 'Take only ONE . God is watching.' Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. A child had written a note, 'Take all you want. God is watching the apples.'

A Bucket Full of Info

Sorry I haven't been posting in awhile. Things have just been a little on the crazy side.

Since the last time I posted, a few things have happened. To say the least.

Megan just had her 9th Birthday this past Monday. We went to Incredible Pizza with three of her little friends.

We have had our piano recital. It was the last time for Kara. *sniff*

Federation has come and gone. With fairly good results. The new music has been fun to work on. Something new and refreshing! I think I am falling in love with one of our new choir songs.

The last week or so, us four older girls have been battling with a head cold thingy.

Us three older girls are almost done with a speech class that we started back before the holidays.

American Idol has been awesome to watch!! I think that Lil is going tonight. She just hasn't been showing the extent of all she can do with her voice. My favorites have to be Danny, Adam, and Allison.

Have any of you been watching the Mentalist? Oh my!!! I LOVE this show!!! Although the show that was on last night, it was not as good as the one that was on two weeks ago. But I am still a BIG fan of the show!!!

Last month, My mom, great-aunt, greatgrandma, grandma, frenid, and some of my sisters, went up to KC, and saw the Phantom of the Opera play. OH MY GOODNESS!!!! The guy who played the phantom is by far my favorite phantom!!!!! The girl who was Christine was ok, she is better than shara brightman though. The guy who played Raul was not my favorite. I think that Patrick Willion did a better job at it. I really would love to go see it again!!! But I think I know the answer to that. *sigh*

I guess that about wraps up what has been going on around here. Thanks for keeping up with reading!!

It snowed for about three hours. The kids are out there playing and having a blast, as far as I can tell. It is still kind-of flurrying. If that is even a word.

American Idol

Well, it is almost that time again. For us to be the judges and vote for the new American Idol. I really can't give an honest opinion until we all are able to vote. So, don't start asking who my favorite is until about then. Got it? OK, on to other things.

Emily is now officially a teen-ager!!!!! 13!!!!!! Now there is going to be MORE fighting over who gets to sit in the front seat.

I have been sick for about two days. I have had a head cold. My throat is really sore, it is the one thing that hurts the most all the time. It gets painful to swallow at times. Even breathing becomes a hassle.

Well, I guess that is it. Blog Later.

Sorry

Sorry that I haven't posted in while!!!!!! If you haven't looked, down at the bottom of my blog, there is a video. It is entitled "Danny Boy, Muppet's style" It is hilarious!!!!! We listen to it ALL the time!!!!!

We got new pieces in both orchestra and choir!!! They are all AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

Kara, Maddie, my mom, and a friend, Kara P., and myself started a P.E class. Right now we are learning how to bowl. It is very interesting to say the least. We have all broken 100 once in the entire two weeks that we have been doing it. That is, us teens, not my mom. She has scored in the 100's every time she has bowled.

Well, I guess that is all I have to say right now. Blog later.
